Team Bluebird returns to set new electric Land Speed Record | Car & SUV

Team Bluebird returns to set new electric Land Speed Record | Car & SUV:

"When it comes to breaking speed records no one groups is more famous than the Bluebird Team. With a history of more than 100 years the Bluebird Team has broken and set records not just on land but also on water. The Bluebird Team can trace its history back to 1911 with Sir Malcolm Campbell, who named his team after Maurice Maeterlinck’s play.
In the decades that followed, this family-based team broke more than 30 speed records and now, Sir Campbell’s own grandson, Don Wales, will attempt to make history once again over a century later.
This latest challenge is to break the UK LSR for an electric vehicle and the weapon of choice is the Bluebird Electric. The attempt will take place on the Pendine Sands at South Wales over the weekend of 13-14 August. The event was originally scheduled to take place earlier, but one key component was not delivered by an European constructor on time, so British-based Transdev built it instead.
The Bluebird team is 30 members-strong and will be using the event to not only make a play at the UK land speed record for electric vehicles but also to test the project car’s development. It’s main target is set for 2013 when Bluebird will attempt to break the 500 mph (805 km/h) barrier with its electric car."
