Vital funds for children | This is South Wales
Vital funds for children | This is South Wales: "MORE than £800 was raised for a children's charity at a recent event in Pendine.
The carol singing event in aid of the NSPCC was organised by a local team from Pendine.
Adults and children had sung around the Christmas tree next to the Beach Hotel, braving the cold after an opening prayer read by the Reverend Keith Littler.
Funds were boosted by a donation made by Llanboidy councillor Roy Llewellyn, which he and his wife raised at their anniversary party.
Other funds were collected at the Spring Well Inn and The Beach Hotel, as well as the carol singers.
A further £100 was raised at a New Year's Eve party at the Pendine and Llanmiloe community hall, bringing the total raised for the NSPCC to £870."

1. Go down to the beach from the car park and turn right towards the first outcrop. Follow the steep
path up the hill. When you reach the top you can look back along the miles of beach. Pendine Sands
is best known as the place where Malcolm Campbell and JG Parry-Thomas set the world land speed
record five times between 1924 and 1927.
2. Follow the path round to the left towards Ragwen Point. This area used to be overrun with
Japanese knotweed but, after extensive conservation work, it's now home to many native wild flower
and plant species.
3. The path crosses Gilam Point, where there’s an Iron Age hill-fort and the remnants of a medieval
field system.
4. Follow the path to a small pebble beach: Morfa Bychan. Allied Forces preparing for the Normandy
landings in 1944 practised on this beach.
5. On a clear day you'll have fine views towards Gower, Somerset and Devon, and Tenby to the west.
Turn your back to the sea and follow the path up the narrow, wooded valley.
6. Take the right-hand fork and follow the path through fields to its junction with the road. Then turn
right again and walk down the lane back to the car park in Pendine.

Salt Addiction: Richard Brown’s Jet Reaction - Motorcycle USA
Salt Addiction: Richard Brown’s Jet Reaction - Motorcycle USA: "As an engineer you can always improve on a previous design. At the time we wanted to set the world record on Pendine Sands in the UK which, at only 4.5 miles long, dictated using rocket power to provide the necessary acceleration. Unfortunately, Pendine proved unsuitable. One negative of the rocket bike was the very high cost and logistics of running it. During the Jet Pack project I have almost scratch-built my own fanjet turbine, so my knowledge of gas turbines/jet engines has vastly increased. For the new bike propulsion I have substantially modified a turboshaft helicopter engine to convert it into a turbojet and then added my own afterburner.” Sir Malcolm Cambell was the first to set a land speed record at Pendine Sands in 1924, running 146.16 mph in a 350 horsepower V12 Sunbeam he named Blue Bird. Kilgetty in seventh heaven as James takes match ball | This is South Wales: "Pendine secured their sixth point of the season following a 2-2 home draw with Narberth Seconds. The result still sees the Gulls rooted to the foot of the table but, against a team with an outside chance of promotion, it proves they are more than capable of staying in division three.
Two goals from Robert Thomas put the home side 2-0 up at the break, but Narberth dug deep to recover, Mike Ryder scoring a penalty and Callum O'Connell equalising with 15 minutes left."

Ricky Hunt and Cei Edwards scored the goals for the Gulls in another disappointing day for the club. "

TENBY TODAY | SPORT | Local soccer round-up: "Narberth were due to travel to Merlins Bridge in the first division and Pendine were due to entertain the Wizards’ seconds in division three, yet no amount of magical intervention was able to get these games going; sometimes mother nature is just far too strong.
Tenby used to have a history of postponements for home games, but ever since a drainage scheme was introduced a few years ago, cancellations have been few and far between.
Just as well, as the Seasiders were able to take the field and show just how good they are with a 5-1 demolition of Johnston.
Darryl Mansbridge and Jordan Richards both finished the game with two goals apiece, with Billy Vaughan nipping in for the other. "

£500k tourist attraction for coastal village | This is South Wales: "Chair of the community council Simon Morris welcomed the news. He said: "We are delighted the funding for the promenade at Pendine has been secured.
"Over the past 60 years or so the surface had become worn and unappealing and this money will allow us to replace it with something more modern and attractive.
"The community council has worked with the county council over a period of nearly five years to get to this point and, on behalf of the village, I would like to thank all the county council officers who've put a lot of time and effort into securing this funding for us.
"There will be some disruption while the work is carried out but we've asked that the contractors do their utmost to minimise this."
The plans are being showcased at a special open day at the village's Museum of Speed next Tuesday, January 10, from 2pm to 8pm."

Those nicely composed powerslides you see on your screen are not always as tidy and neat as they seem. Lot of work goes into them, not all of which done by the car and the driver. You have to also give it to the director and the editors."
